Icelandic footballer Hermann Hreidarsson balanced professional football with working on North Atlantic trawlers to fund his engineering studies. His hard work paid off when Steve Coppell signed him to Crystal Palace in 1997, launching his Premier League career. Despite holding a relegation record, Hreidarsson achieved success, winning the FA Cup with Portsmouth and earning 89 caps for Iceland.
