Current Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri was the manager of Chelsea when Chelsea legend Frank Lampard joined the Blues in 2001.

Frank Lampard: 'If it wasn’t for Claudio Ranieri, I wouldn’t have had the career I had'
The Italian managed the dynamic English midfielder from 2001 to 2004 before being replaced by Jose Mourinho and Lampard certainly believes his career turned out well due to the presence of the Italian at the helm.

It certainly is a great comment coming from a player who has been regarded as one of the best English midfielders and arguably Chelsea's best player. The former Chelsea midfielder stated that Ranieri helped him in becoming a more complete midfielder and owes his Premier league success to him.

The former West Ham player was more attacking in his approach but the Italian helped him to improve his defensive side as well.

Lampard is happy seeing his former manager doing well at Leicester City and feels Ranieri deserves his success. He also added that people have been expecting Leicester City to finally lose some points but they still lead the table with just nine games to go in the season.

Since there are no league games this week, John Terry dedicated his time doing charity. He decided to spend his spare time helping an organization raise money for a good cause.

John Terry
The initiative, called Shoot For Love is a charity campaign for child cancer.

The Chelsea skipper had to shoot on to a huge bullseye and each shot would raise donation, depending on where the ball hits.

After completing his 10 shots, Terry also nominated his ex-teammates Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard. He also nominated former Liverpool skipper and England teammate Steven Gerrard.

Ronaldo and Real Madrid

Arrogance, self centered, world class, goal machine are some of the terms used to describe the World's best player. Ronaldo notched up another two goals this weekend to take his tally to 30 for the overall season and 25 in La Liga. To be fair he had a bad performance but such is the mark of a quality player that he got a brace propelling Real Madrid to a 1-4 win. The Portuguese legend was also in the headlines as he gifted watches to his teammates that represented a token of thanks for their contribution in making him the best. He only cares about himself, right? Class all-around from Ronny!

Fast fact:
La Liga :Cristiano Ronaldo- 25 goals
Leo Messi + Luis Suarez + Neymar = 24 goals

Frank Lampard

Frank Lampard bagged his 175th Premier League goal as he equals Thierry Henry on the Top goal scorer's list. Lampard defies all odds as the Englishman proves he can still score them at the highest level as that makes a tally of 6 in all competitions for his new club Manchester City. This meant the former Chelsea legend became City's chief goal contributor alongside Jovetic and Toure when Sergio Aguero is excluded. Chelsea should be wondering why they let him go!

Bayern Munich FC

Untouched and impossible to stop in the Bundesliga, Bayern look unbeatable. No side in Germany seems to have mastered that art and it may have to be a while until they do. Pep Guardiola's hybrid is showing no weakness and it is safe to say they will claim the Bundesliga title. Can he do what rival Jose Mourinho failed? Go the season unbeaten!  For now, the German juggernaut marches on. Rivals Borussia Dortmund dropped back into the relegation zone with another defeat. The only other team that could stop Bayern is at its lowest point in years.

Relegation candidates

Playing well can never be a reflection of your log position.  Leicester City beating Manchester United was better than Manchester City forgetting the score line and they have been very impressive.  They anchor the English Premier League table and could sack Nigel Pearson by Christmas if they want change. Borussia Dortmund slipped to another defeat against Hertha Berlin to drop into the bottom two in Germany.  Last season it was Hamburg, this year it is Dortmund.  How are they so good in Europe? Hull slip into the red zone and are further adrift as their FA Cup run is but a memory.  Will Steve Bruce keep his job?

Auckland City FC

They are the first Oceania champions to make the semi finals of the FIFA Club World Cup. They beat ES Setif 1-0. They now face Copa Libertadores winners San Lorenzo. Both sides have never been in the final of the Club World Cup or the former equivalent Intercontinental Cup.  Could the Oceania squad surprise? Having featured in two matches already they may be fatigued going into a third game within a week.

Steven Gerrard Joined Liverpool academy at the age 9, and made his first team appearance November 29, 1998. Since then he has become a legend, and integral part of Liverpool Football Club.

Steven Gerrard [Image from Flickr by: Calcio Mercato]
After 15 years and 684 appearances, Steven Gerrard, nicknamed Captain Fantastic, has become the face and image of the club. He became captain in 2003, succeeding Sami Hyypia, and has successfully led Liverpool to many victories since then. In 2005, Steven Gerrard captained Liverpool Football as they won the Champions League against all odds in Istanbul against AC Milan. The skipper has claimed that the 2005 Champions league final is one of his proudest moments as Liverpool Capptain. Football legends worldwide praise the Liverpool legend, and admire his talents of leading others on and off the pitch.

Football icon, Zinedine Zidane, has expressed his feelings about Steven Gerrard by saying ""He has great passing ability, can tackle and score goals, but most importantly he gives the players around him confidence and belief. You can't learn that -- players like him are just born with that presence"", Zidane said of the Liverpool captain in 2009.

After almost 11 years as Liverpool captain, today Steven Gerrard is struggling to get a contract to stay at Liverpool. Because of that, rumors have begun discussing the fact that in January, when his contract expires, he will transfer to another club. Transfer rumors regarding Steven Gerrard include those about Intermilan and New York City Football Club, along with Lampard eventually.

Other rumors however, have stated that Liverpool by no means want to let Stevie go, and will soon offer him a contract. Though time is ticking, and the January transfer window is right around the corner, which makes supporters wonder, and panic about Captain Fantastic’s situation. Is this going to be another Frank Lampard situation? During the summer transfer window, during the world cup, Frank Lampard, Chelsea legend, was put up for sale, quite rudely, and transferred to Manchester City as a last resort.  Chelsea was criticized heavily for their actions, especially by Liverpool supports, but is Liverpool about to do the same thing? Liverpool supporters argue that they are different from the “rent boys”, and therefore selling Gerrard in that way would be something anti-Liverpool like. Supporters certainly do not want Gerrard to end his career somewhere that is not Liverpool Football Club, however, as of now, it looks like that is what is going to occur. Brendan Rodgers has publically said that his plan is to keep Gerrard at Liverpool, but the question is why hasn’t he made it secure yet? It would be completely disrespectful to have Steven Gerrard end his career with Liverpool this way after dedicating most of his life to the club.

Steven Gerrard isn’t the only one without a new contract, Suso, Fabio Borini, and Glen Johnson, are still waiting for their contracts as offers are rushing in from other clubs. One can only assume that the club is waiting to give these players a new contract at the same time, but supporters can only hope. The January transfer window will be an interesting one for Liverpool.

Man City 1-1 Chelsea
In an intriguing game at the Etihad stadium, Manchester City failed to record a win for the third league game in a row, but did manage to take a point off title favourites Chelsea. However, that was not the main story behind the game, which brought up a lot of talking points, which I will look at.
First off, Frank Lampard's equaliser for Manchester City. That in itself is a bizarre sentence, but for it to come against Chelsea is Hollywood-esque. A player scoring his first goal against the team who he became a legend at after scoring 211 goals in a 12 year spell at is something that the writers of Rocky might scoff at for being a little bit far-fetched. Lampard himself looked devastated to have scored, despite it being the equaliser in a huge game. This brought up the tiresome discussion of players celebrating against their old teams, which, frankly, is irrelevant in the grand scheme of things.

Many believed that Lampard's contribution at Man City wouldn't be particularly big and I was in that bracket, but now even if he does nothing else this spell will be remembered for that goal. It was a classic Lampard goal, arriving late in the box to latch onto a cut back before sliding a volley home, cancelling out André Schürrle's 71st minute opener.

Frank Lampard scored for Manchester City against  his former club Chelsea
What surprised me most from this game was Chelsea's inability to see out a game that it appeared they had won in predictable fashion and indeed this seems to be their only weakness at the moment - they are leaking a lot more goals than is typical of a Mourinho side. After the controversy surrounding his defensive tactics last season, Mourinho's men have leaked silly goals so far this season. However, with Diego Costa's undeniable quality up front, they have a ruthless edge that they have lacked since Didier Drogba's prime, which makes them capable of winning any game. It is still likely that Mourinho will bemoan the lack of defensive solidity that would have won them this game comfortably.

Pablo Zabaleta received what could be perceived as a harsh red card with less than half an hour to go, after receiving two soft bookings, however he must take a large portion of the blame, as referee Mike Dean set the tone early on with a plethora of cards which it must be said he was mostly consistent with. Zabaleta rushed in to tackle Costa, whom he had had a battle with all day, tripping him up and got his marching orders. Shortly after, Chelsea made that extra man pay and Zabaleta must be held at least partially responsible as with him on the pitch, City had a much better chance of winning it.

Finally, I'd like to talk about a few notable players that didn't make the headlines. James Milner's performance was absolutely superb and though he is often a much maligned player (who I have to admit has only recently won me over) he shows why he is a player at a top 4 team in the big games. Often his work rate is mentioned but little is said of his technical ability, which is on par with many top players. He is an intelligent player who creates space and uses it well with his incisive passing, accurate crossing and decent finishing. He was outstanding in every position he played, which included the very unnatural position of left-back, but he did what was asked of him. On the other side of the spectrum, Yaya Toure has so far struggled to impact games this season, despite being City's top scorer last season. He again failed to impose himself on Chelsea's midfield, but this may have been down to the impervious Nemanja Matic, who again impressed at the base of the midfield. Matic broke down innumerous City attacks and used the ball intelligently which helped Chelsea to nullify the midfield threat which City possess, except for one notable time.

Making his debut for City was Eliaquim Mangala, who looked like a top-drawer centre-half. Mangala is a towering defender with pace and strength in abundance, but reads the game well and aims to defend on the front foot, much like his partner Kompany. He helped to nullify the threat of Diego Costa who didn't get much of a sniff until he hit the post late on with a snapshot from the edge of the box. Despite not scoring, Costa was a constant thorn in the side of City, pulling out wide and battling with Zabaleta, eventually culminating in a red card which could have won Chelsea the game. Down the middle, however, he had little joy due to the performance of Mangala and Kompany.

All in all, Chelsea will be disappointed not to have held out for three points which would have put them five points clear at this early stage, but they are still clear favorites at this point. Man City will take heart from a good performance but need to get their creative players in better positions or they may struggle to create chances against bigger teams. Defensively they look solid, so they now need to refind their scoring form of early last season.
